Robert Burns was born in 1759 in Ayrshire and came to Dumfries in 1778 to work as an excise-man until he died in 1796 aged 37.

The Bard’s life was shortened by his legendary excesses with promiscuous philandering and pub lifestyle. He drank in the Globe Inn, a pub since 1610 that is still playing host to drinkers and town characters, but sadly no luminary poetic talents.

Robert Burns body has been allowed to decompose in a mausoleum in St Michael’ s Church in Dumfries along with his wife, Jean Armour and some of her kids. His son Maxwell was born on his funeral, the 25th July.
